Flappy Bird Arcade machine
Vietnamese developer Dong Nguyen has broken at least two promises involving his frustrating yet addictive Flappy Bird game, which made waves in 2014 after causing some people to smash their devices with rage.
One of those broken promises was that he would not reintroduce Flappy Bird back into the world. If news that Bay Tek Games is bringing it to arcades is any indication, Nguyen appears to be reaping the benefits of his annoying avian sidescroller still. That is, if he hasn’t given the IP away for free, in which case he is still guilty of not fully gutting Flappy.
“The recognizable Flappy Bird artwork, 42” monitor and colorful lighting will sure be a great addition to any game room,” Bay Tek Games
said in a statement.
The machine will replace touch controls with a giant red button right smack in the middle of the console. A joystick will not be required of course, because Flappy is smart enough to fly on his own, if guided properly.
Right, so that’s one broken promise. The second one is that he’d release a much improved version of the game, after retracting the original. Instead of doing that, Nguyen decided to launch Swing Copters, an even more annoying game that bore little resemblance to the original Flappy Bird. We’re going to call him on his deeds on Twitter in hope of an answer.
Until then, carefully reevaluate your tendencies to overspend when faced with addictive side-scrollers. With Flappy, you might just lose an entire month’s salary if the arcade’s managers decide to charge one token per life lost. For one reason or another, it’s almost impossible to accept defeat in this game.
