Facebook unveiled today, April 8, the standalone Messenger app for web browsers via the Messenger.com website. The Messenger app is also known as Facebook Messenger (formerly Facebook Chat).
Messenger for Web allows Facebook users to chat with their friends and family more easily, without having to stay connected to the Facebook.com website, on a tab on their favorite web browser.
At the moment, the integrated chat functionality remains active on all Facebook accounts. Messenger for Web is here to provide users with a better chat experience, in addition to the standalone smartphone apps.
You can access Facebook Messenger for Web today and start chatting with friends in style. The interface is very similar to the one of the WhatsApp Web, but does not depend on your phone.
We've successfully tested the standalone Messenger app with many web browsers, including Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, Opera, and Internet Explorer. Messenger.com might also work with other web browsers.
Messenger for Web is accessible from any computer, independent of the operating system installed (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, BSD, or Solaris). The Messenger app from Facebook is also available for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone mobile devices.
