Earlier this afternoon Microsoft released -- without
fanfare or warning -- a new version of Windows 10, build 10074, dubbed
the "Insider Preview," no doubt in homage to the millions of people who
have taken Win10 for a ride.
With the Build conference set to start tomorrow, this could well be the "Build build."
It doesn't appear to be available yet through the build 10061 Settings/Update app, but OSBeta has
posted links
to the official windowsupdate.com site, and those links yield what
appear to be legitimate copies of Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise, x86 and
x64, in U.S. English (en-us), British English (en-gb) and Simplified
Chinese (zh-cn).
I can confirm that the ISO x64 en-us version posted by OSBeta (which does not
come from the official windowsupdate site) performs a successful clean
install, identifies itself as build 10074, and shows a few cosmetic
changes since 10061, including a faint blurring of the background behind
the Start menu. The People app appears to be working. Project Spartan
still doesn't rate an icon on the taskbar.
Meanwhile, there's a bushel full of patches being released to build 10061 systems. WZor
has tweeted:
sources confirm! Sign-OFF Windows 10 RTM will take place at the end of July, the partners will get RTM in mid-August!
You can take this with copious amounts of salt. Build 10071 most certainly isn't the "quantum leap" in betas
I had anticipated to be delivered around Build time.
