In a case that’s hard to believe, a teen was the victim of a
brutal ‘exorcism’ ritual, which left her violently gang-raped and then
blinded, but even more disturbing than the chain of events are those who
were responsible and their reason for the horrendous attack, which has
left the 16-year-old hospitalized and fighting for her life.
The nightmarish ordeal happened in the town of General
Pinedo, in the north Argentine province of Chaco, where the teen,
Elizabeth Juarez, allegedly began having visions of animals, such as
goats, which were not there. Believing that this was caused by a demonic
possession, the girl’s family, including her parents who also believed
her to be possessed, sought the help of a local evangelic center and its
pastor to help them “cure her.”

That’s when things took a turn for the worst. With the
belief that demons are terrified of pain, a plan was put into place that
would involve an act meant to drive out the demons thought to be
possessing the girl. However, the only demons this girl was about to
face were those within the very people claiming they were trying to help
her.
During the exorcism ritual, the girl was pinned down by a
group of unidentified men and gang-raped while her elder sister, Sandra,
gouged out both of her eyes with a knife, all of which her family
orchestrated because they believed the teen was possessed by the devil.
Even more disturbing, the brutal exorcism ritual was allegedly ordered
by the local pastor, who not only told them to do it, but also gave them
the knife that was used to cut her eyes from her head.
The sister, who has since been arrested by police, claims
that the religious center not only gave her the knife used in the
attack, but also said that she must be the one to personally carry out
the ritual to cure her possessed sister.
According to doctors, the victim, who remains in the
intensive care unit of the Perrando de Resistencia hospital,
also suffered several injuries in the genital area, and police are
reportedly preparing to arrest the group of men who took part in the
gang-rape.
“It is very difficult to explain that something like this
could happen to a teenager,” said Police Commissioner Pablo Almiron. “It
is the first time in 22 years of my career in the police to have an
event of this nature,” he added. “The prosecutor has also said that it
is the first time in his life. It is very difficult to explain that
something like this could happen to a teenager.”
No matter what religion you claim to be, if your ideology or
your religious leaders begin to tell you to inflict physical harm on
others, it’s time to reconsider that belief system. If inflicting this
kind of harm on someone sounds like something you could be capable of
doing in the name of “religion,” you need a mental health evaluation.
