Couple Reveals Nauseating 60-Year Tradition That Will Churn Your Stomach

A couple from Satellite Beach, Florida has been married for an astounding 60 years. As most married couples do, they have established a tradition to honor their marriage annually, except the way this couple celebrates their anniversary is a bit odd and will surely churn anyone’s stomach.
On August 19, 1955, Ann and Ken Fredericks got married. In order to celebrate their 60 years of marriage, they have chosen to eat a piece of their wedding cake every year they are married. No, not a freshly baked replica of their wedding cake, but the original cake that was made over a half a century ago.

The dark fruit cake had been made by Ann’s grandmother, “who baked three layers of cake about two months prior to the wedding so it could age and then a baker decorated it,” according to ABC. As many couples do, the newlyweds saved the top tier to taste on their one-year anniversary, except the Fredericks had different plans – they have eaten a slice of their original wedding cake on every anniversary for sixty years.

If that isn’t nauseating in itself, they don’t keep the cake in the freezer, but it’s stored in a Maxwell House coffee can in their closet.
“I mean, dark fruit cake keeps,” explains 81-year-old Ann.
When they were asked how their sixty-year-old cake tasted, Ann explained, “It’s a little dry, and — it doesn’t taste bad.” She added, “I mean, it doesn’t have an objectionable taste, but it’s a little dry.”
They do admit that they moisten their pieces with brandy before indulging in their aged treat. Since their cake tradition has gone public, they have been overwhelmed with several congratulatory phone calls.
“I’m surprised, I think it’s kind of silly,” Ken said, talking about the reactions to their tradition.
“We just never thought of this as being unusual … hopefully we’ll be able to do it for a few more years,” Ann remarked.

The couple is spending the weekend with their three children and other loved ones to celebrate their recent anniversary. Although their tradition may be a bit unusual to us, all that really matters is that it works for them. Perhaps a small stomach ache after indulging in an old cake is the secret to a lasting marriage — something only few get to experience in their lifetime.
