Brian Gamage, Braylon, Sade Hamilton
Mother’s Day took a near fatal turn for a young mom
in Detroit, when her vehicle was struck t-bone style, forcing responders
to cut her out of the car and sending her straight to the hospital in
serious condition. She suffered a broken pelvis and ruptured bladder and
was set for surgery on her injuries, when suddenly her condition took a
turn for the worst. Then, to add insult to injury, she would be hit
with far worse news when she finally woke from a lengthy coma caused by
the sudden decline in her health.
Sade Hamilton’s baby was just 3-months-old when she was in
the terrifying traffic accident. All she wanted was to get better for
little Braylon, but those recovery efforts were quickly derailed when a
misdiagnosis sent her into a coma. With her fiancé, Brian Gamage,
constantly by her side in the hospital, he was there for her right
before her scheduled trip to the operating room. Since it was going to
be late when she underwent surgery, Gamage decided to leave the hospital
for home, where he could get some sleep.
“I left about 11 that night, I told her I love her,” Gamage said. “(I told her) I would be back to visit her in the morning.”
He woke the next morning to a phone call from the hospital
saying she had gotten sick after the surgery and that a mishap had
occurred. These complications caused her heart to stop not just once,
but six times while on the operating table. Gamage rushed back to be by
her side. She was still alive, but he and her baby was the most support
she had, in addition to a few foster family members. Hamilton had
struggled her whole life to have a real home, having been put into the
foster system at just 3-years-old after losing both her parents.

The issues in surgery caused Hamilton to slip into a coma,
where she remained for two months. But this “mishap” had also caused far
more complications than just the coma. Doctors were forced to amputate
the 20-year-old mother’s right arm below the elbow, her fingers on her
left hand, and her legs below the knee,
WJBK reported.
She didn’t know she was without so many of her limbs until
she woke up. With Gamage still there when she finally came to, he told
her all that had happened, but he vowed to stay by her side through the
rigorous recovery. Always positive, despite enduring a traumatic life,
Hamilton didn’t let the horrible news kill her spirit.
“She knows the situation; she is not too broken down about
it,” Gamage described of his fiancée’s unwavering optimism. “Her spirit
is a lot higher than you would think.”
Gamage brings the now 5-month-old baby to the
mother’s bedside frequently to help keep her spirits high and encourage
her in recovery. Her outlook on life is an inspiration. She could
complain and sulk about having lost so much, but she just keeps going,
and for that reason, she’s better off than most. She may not have some
of her limbs, but she has unconditional love from her fiancé and her
child, which is all anyone needs.
Sade’s family has hired an attorney to investigate the
possibility of any medical malpractice in this case. With so many
medical and potential legal bills, in addition to regular life
expenses, her little family is struggling to keep up financially. If you
would like to help donate to this mother and her child, a
GoFundMe account has been set up in her name.
