But…wouldn’t that be quite hypocritical? While Syrians are emigrants in their own eyes, we see them as immigrants. Likewise, Canadians — which have said they’ll take in 25,000 Syrians by January 2016, as opposed to the U.S.’s 10,000 this year, as reports Global News – Canada — would see Americans as immigrants too, yes? Though, in our eyes, we’d be emigrants. While Americans may think it’d be a quick jump across Canadian borders, Americans must remember that we aren’t really liked outside of the U.S.’s borders, believe it or not.Moving to Canada if Minnesota lets the refugees in.— Chris Vanneste (@chrisridebikes) November 17, 2015
While I’m all for sending the refugees elsewhere, particularly the young, single, military aged men, we can’t have a double standard about it. We can’t broadcast to the world as being the ones who rejected Syrian refugees and then also try to become Canadian immigrants. That makes zero sense and only helps solidify what the rest of the world thinks about Americans in the first place. Some Americans are tweeting that if refugees get let in, they're moving to Canada. Uh…who wants to tell them?— Kristi Colleen (@KristiColleen) November 18, 2015
Many of the U.S. citizens’ statements are based off emotion, and they often end up backfiring. However, the decision not to accept recent refugees during impending attack is logical. It’s not emotion-based. It makes sense. To accept Syrian refugees during this time IS the emotional decision, NOT the logical one.@mmalkoskie sorry – Canada is not taking any more refugees from US.
