More Guns Owned Than EVER In US, Other Stat Has Gun-Grabbers FURIOUS

Sean Brown
Since Barack Obama took office in 2008, over 100 million guns have been purchased by law-abiding Americans proudly exercising their Second Amendment rights, which has led to the highest rate of gun ownership in the history of our country. However, there’s another statistic that’s getting a lot of attention along with the number of guns owned, and it has the anti-gun left furious.
It’s often said, “An armed society is a polite society,” and such appears to ring true after looking at murder statistics over the last 60 years or so. If we were to listen to the left, we would be convinced there’s some sort of “epidemic” when it comes to gun violence across the country, and while that may be true for Chicago and other liberal cities, just the opposite is true on the national level.
A look at a chart from the FBI showing the per-capita murder rate in our country tells an interesting tale:

More on the chart from the Washington Examiner:
If the editors meant to refer to a gun-death epidemic or a mass-shooting epidemic, here’s a relevant bit of information: Per-capita murders in the U.S. are at their lowest level since FBI records began, and they are trending downwards. The Times editors write “motives do not matter to the dead.” I would add that “weapons of choice do not matter to the dead.” So, here’s a chart of all murders in the U.S, taken from FBI data.
In addition to the rate being its lowest ever, look at the years 1968 and 1986, when the two biggest gun control “victories” were achieved by the left. Do you notice anything? I did – in both cases, not only did the murder rate not decline, but it shot up in the following years.
Now, what happened then? Well, the Gun Control Act of 1968 was passed after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and signed into law by Lyndon B. Johnson. It was intended to control interstate commerce of guns after the one used to kill the president was purchased through the mail. At the time, the American people were told that the law would keep them safer, but you can see how that worked out.
Then in 1986, the aptly named Firearm Owners Protection Act banned the sale of automatic weapons manufactured after the date of the bill to civilians, restricting them to only law enforcement and the military, which was a blow to the Second Amendment since it was designed to make sure the government and the people were always on a level playing field. This bill was also intended to keep people safer, but like its predecessor, it coincided with a jump in murders in the following years.
While it’s impossible to know if either gun control law actually contributed to the spike in murders after they were passed, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that neither bill worked as intended. Regardless, we’re often told more guns leads to more crime, but as you can see in the chart above, paired with the fact that Americans own more guns than ever, it’s really not the case.
