A Kentucky elementary school decided to give A Charlie Brown Christmas special
a politically correct makeover this year, which really didn’t sit well
with parents. While the movie was playing at the school, the parents
revolted and took the opportunity to humiliate school officials.
On Thursday, Johnson County Schools in Paintsville played
the Christmas movie to an auditorium packed full of students, parents,
and administrators, only there was one thing missing — Linus reciting
Bible verses to explain the meaning of Christmas to Charlie Brown. While
administrators figured the move was “inclusive” for all the students,
parents at the school really weren’t pleased, and something incredible
happened during the showing.
According to
TheBlaze, the school edited out the portion of the film where Linus Van Pelt recites Luke 2:8-14, which reads as follows:
8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
The scene is arguably the most important in the cartoon
feature, since it explains the true meaning of Christmas, which is what
its creator, Charles Schultz,
intended,
and the Kentucky parents weren’t about to let the school get away with
taking it out. Right on cue, they started reciting the Bible verses in
unison for everyone in the auditorium to hear.
“The parents in the bleachers basically quoted the verse
from the book of Luke, and it was just an amazing moment — it really
was,” Joey Collins, parent of one Kentucky student, said. “Everybody was
pretty much in tears and clapping. It was just a great time.”
How cool is that? It’s funny the school’s administration
actually helped to spread the word of God and the true meaning of
Christmas while being anti-Christian bigots, isn’t it?
You know, if more parents were to do things like this, the
problem of hyper-sensitivity in schools would eventually fix itself. As
Christians, we have rights too, and just because the bigoted left says
our beliefs shouldn’t be celebrated, doesn’t make it so.
Well done to these families for both showing school
officials where to stick it and helping to spread the true reason for
the season. Let’s just hope this kind of thing catches on and starts
happening more often. Merry Christmas!
