Trump Issues BOLD Threat To Fox If Megyn Kelly Isn’t Dumped From Debate

It’s not exactly a secret that Donald Trump isn’t a fan of Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, and he’s recently demanded that Fox withdraw her from the upcoming debate because of a “conflict of interest.” Just five days before the debate, Donald Trump went after Kelly again, and he issued a bold threat to Fox over what he may do if the network doesn’t dump her.
IJReview is reporting that Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, spoke with New York Magazine’s Gabriel Sherman, and apparently, Trump may be doing something entirely different if Kelly is allowed to stay on as a moderator – he’ll hold his own town hall meeting at the same time and go head-to-head with the Fox debate.
“Let’s see what happens,” Lewandowski is quoted as saying. “It’s fair to say Mr. Trump is a significant ratings driver for these debates. If we aren’t on stage for some reason, they wouldn’t have the record 24 million viewers and would be back with 1-2 million people.”
For those unaware, Trump has repeatedly criticized Kelly for a perceived “conflict of interest” and has also accused her of being biased against him.
Although Lewandowski suggested that Trump might not play nice with Fox if things don’t go the way he wants, campaign spokeswoman Katrina Pierson, a Tea Party firebrand from Dallas, Texas, downplayed the possibility of a separate event during an appearance on CNN.
“There’s no love lost between Megyn Kelly and Donald Trump after that first debate; that’s been a very publicized disagreement there,” she said. “But, I think it’s going to be fine.”
In a statement to IJReview, Fox also downplayed the idea of Trump holding a town hall and instead said he’s doing what Trump does best – drawing in viewers.
“Megyn Kelly has no conflict of interest. Donald Trump is just trying to build up the audience for Thursday’s debate, for which we thank him.”
Whether or not that’s what he’s doing remains to be seen. However, should Trump hold a separate town hall, he very likely could get better ratings than the actual GOP debate. Either way, it’ll be interesting to watch this play out.
