In the case of The Hangover, Deadpool has already taken in 47.9% of the 2009 comedy’s entire lifetime domestic gross in the first three days of its release. It is also $217.4 million away from supplanting American Sniper, which would then leave Deadpool a grenade’s throw away from obliterating The Passion Of The Christ‘s title of “highest grossing R-rated movie of all time.”

By breaking no less than nine different box office records in its opening weekend and outgrossing the other top nine movies combined within a four day period, Deadpool‘s
stunning opening weekend success is upending the industry’s financial
expectations of R-rated movies, particularly those in the superhero
genre.
