They’re dropping like flies.
By breaking no less than nine different box office records in its opening weekend and outgrossing the other top nine movies combined within a four day period,
Here’s a visualization illustrating just how much of a record-slaying flick
Deadpool is shaping up to be:
Deadpool is riding a wave of
buzz that movie executives usually only dream about.
Fox's
new crass, meta Marvel film is already shaking up movie slates, with
the studio setting plans in motion to teach their old mutants some crude
tricks by
raunching up the upcoming third
Wolverine sequel with an R-rating.
The crater that
Deadpool made at the
box office has already left plenty of movies in ashes (sorry,
Zoolander 2 and
How To Be Single). However, the massacre may have only just begun.
Deadpool’s
unique combination of superhero action, lewd R-rated comedy and an
obscenely lucrative opening weekend haul sets it up to knock the highest
grossing R-rated comedy (
The Hangover)
and the highest grossing R-rated action movie (
American Sniper) from their respective pedestals.
In the case of The Hangover, It is also $217.4 million away from supplanting American Sniper, which would then leave Deadpool a grenade’s throw away from obliterating The Passion Of The Christ‘s title of “highest grossing R-rated movie of all time.”
Do you think
Deadpool has the superpowered legs to speed past all other R-rated record holders? Leave your opinions in the comments below.
