Even though major carriers in the U.S. have
already rolled out the Android 6.0 marshmallow OTA update to HTC One M8
and HTC One M9, AT&T announced towards the beginning of May that the firmware has been delayed.
However, today, GSM Arena
noted that the Marshmallow update is getting rolled out to the
long-awaited HTC One M8 and One M9 units under AT&T's network. This
information has been confirmed by none other than HTC’s VP of Product
Management Mo Versi via his Twitter account.
In general, Android 6.0 OTA update
brings in Doze Mode, which puts the smartphone to deep sleep after an
extended period of inactivity and thereby saving the stand-by battery
life of any Android handset. This update also comes with Google Now on
Tap feature, which enables contextual search based on the content
displayed on the handset’s screen.
Furthermore, the new update entrusts greater
control over app permissions to the user. New set of emojis are also
part of this firmware bundle.
Here is the tweet confirming the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for HTC One M8 and One M9:
Meanwhile, Nvidia Shield Tablet K1 from 2015
received the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update last month. Now, the
predecessor Nvidia Shield Tablet from 2014 is reportedly receiving the
android 6.0.1 OTA update, GSM Arena reported.
It is worth noting that this Marshmallow
update also brings in the monthly Android security patch for March. As
the OTA updates are released in phases, it might take a couple of days
before the firmware package notification pops up on the device.
Nevertheless, Shield owners can manually check for the update
notification from the tablet’s settings menu.
Before downloading and installing the software
package, device owners are advised to have a stable Wi-Fi connection
and at least 50 percent of battery charge.
