The Chicago White Sox placed outfielder Melky Cabrera on family emergency leave prior to Friday's contest against the Detroit Tigers.
The move requires Cabrera to sit out at least three days so he will miss the series in Detroit.

There was no immediate reason given for why the move was necessary.
Cabrera is batting .275 with four homers and 24 RBIs this season.
Right-hander Tommy Kahnle was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte to fill the roster spot.
