A motorcyclist traveling behind a funeral procession was killed Saturday
in Brooklyn when his bike collided with a car that had stopped to let
the mourners pass.
The car, driven by a 26-year-old woman, stopped on Hinsdale Street in
East New York to allow the procession to travel by, eastbound on Linden
Boulevard, shortly after 10:30 a.m.
After the funeral went through the intersection, the woman continued
forward, southbound on Hinsdale Street, police said. As she was
traveling through, the 39-year-old motorcyclist, who was following the
procession, ran into the 2007 Nissan Murano, hitting the read passenger
side.
The driver had turned left when she reached the intersection, according to witness Manuel Aponte.
“The bike was coming, and he ran right into her,” Aponte said. “He ran right into the black car.”
“It happened so quick,” he continued. “That was it.”
When EMS arrived on the scene, the cyclist was lying on the roadway, “foaming through the mouth,” Aponte said.
His blue-and-black motorcycle was in the street not far from where he lay, along with his helmet and a glove.
He was brought to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was withheld pending family notification.
The woman was also brought to the hospital in stable condition, officials said.
There were no arrests. Police are investigating the accident.
