Nigeria began their 2018 World Cup campaign, with a 2-0 defeat to Croatia on Saturday night.
The Super Eagles came into the game, hoping to get at least a point,
after Argentina drew 1-1 in the other fixture played today in Group D.
However, Gernot Rohr’s men fell behind in the 32nd minute.
Oghenekaro Etebo deflected Andrej Kramaric’s diving header past Francis Uzoho.
The Eagles tried to pull one back in the second half, but it was the Croats who scored the decisive goal.
William Troost-Ekong was adjuged to have fouled Mario Mandzukic in the
area and the referee pointed to the spot. Luka Modric stepped up and
fired in a second to hand his team all three points.
Nigeria face Iceland next, while Croatia take on Argentina.
