Munster ran in nine tries as they routed under-strength Irish rivals Ulster 64-7 in a Pro14 clash at Thomond Park on Saturday.
The win saw Munster surpass their previous highest score, biggest winning margin and try haul in what was known as the Celtic League and which remains the main domestic tournament for leading Irish, Scottish, Welsh and Italian clubs, now joined by two South African sides in the Cheetahs and the Southern Kings.
Ulster, however, were without several first-choice players including Ireland internationals Rory Best and Jacob Stockdale, who could return against Connacht, another Irish province, next week.
And their cause was not helped when Iain Henderson and John Cooney both went off with head injuries in the first half.
This victory saw Munster top the 61 points they scored against Caerphilly in 2001 and their previous record margin of 47 against Italy's Zebre two years ago.
Munster next face arch-rivals Leinster, who warmed up for the clash with a 20-3 win away to Connacht.
Ireland fly-half Jonathan Sexton, whose absences from Pro14 action have often been cited as an example of how teams can rest players from a league in which there is no relegation, kicked two penalties as Leinster turned round with a 6-3 lead.
But the visitors pulled away in the second half after Connacht were reduced to 14 men when replacement prop Dominic Robertson-McCoy was sent off for a stamp on the head of Josh van der Flier.
