Democrats mulling impeachment party split as to what direction to take post-Mueller

As the White House says the special counsel’s findings exonerate the president, Democrats say they see impeachable offenses.

Representative Steve Cohen became the latest figure Friday to make the claim. He claims Democrats do have the votes to remove President Trump from office.

However, he said it would be worthwhile to put it in the history books from a moral standpoint.

Cohen’ said the Mueller report showed clear evidence of obstruction, something Democrats should act on with an official resolution.

The Tennessee lawmaker said, at the end of the day, the Democrat-base would like to see impeachment.

“I believe it’s worth while to put in history’s files what this man has done and impeach him,” said Cohen. “I don’t think it’s going to happen politically; I think a middle ground will be a censure. We have censured presidents before in the House of representatives, that could past. It would at least put a historical note the fact that this man’s conduct for regards his obstruction of justice is something that should be noted.”

Cohen’s comments were in response to representative Steny Hoyer saying he didn’t think impeachment was appropriate.
