College Sport Auckland has decided that school sport games next Friday will go ahead, despite the fact teachers are taking 24 hours of industrial action.
The sports organisation is leaving it up to individual schools and teams to work out whether they want to reschedule a fixture.
Michael Cabral-Tarry from the Post-Primary Teachers Association's Auckland branch said other regions have cancelled school sport for the day of the strike.
Many schools rely on teachers to coach teams, transport students to and from games, and help officiate at matches.
"College Sport Auckland want individual teachers to reschedule their own fixtures, to arrange for new venues or new match officials - and say that if their scheduled opposition is unable or unwilling to reschedule, they will be obliged to forfeit," Mr Cabral-Tarry said.
"This is going to have a huge impact on our young people, and is incredibly frustrating.
"It's especially frustrating given that School Sport Canterbury, Sport Taranaki, and Sport Bay of Plenty have all recognised the impact New Zealand's first ever nationwide combined primary, secondary, and area school strike is going to have, by postponing fixtures across the board."
Mr Cabral-Tarry said it was not too late for College Sport Auckland to postpone next week's games and extend the season by a week to make up for it.
About 50,000 primary and secondary school teachers are planning to strike on 29 May.
