Dawn Parabellum
No one thinks they will have any sort of trouble at a
grocery store. Grocery shopping is such a routine errand that we often
forget how important it is to realize there are crazy people everywhere.
On Wednesday, a woman was murdered while doing her regular grocery
shopping in a Saco, Maine grocery store, but there is still no known
motive.

Victim Wendy Boudreau
The attack appears to be random, and the police are
continuing to state that the woman did not know her attacker. Connor
MacCalister, a 31-year-old woman with a shaved head, is facing one
murder charge in the death of Wendy Boudreau, 59, after two paramedics,
who were also in the grocery store at the time, could not save
Boudreau’s life. MacCalister stabbed Boudreau in the throat randomly at
the small town grocery store.

Connor MacCalister
The attack happened in the frozen foods section of the
grocery store, and one witness claimed to be able to see a large pool of
blood on the floor. The purse belonging to Boudreau was seen near the
blood. The grocery store also oddly stayed open for two more hours after
the brutal slaying before the management put up a sign stating that the
store was closed due to an “emergency.”
MacCalister was a disturbed woman by all accounts (yes,
that’s a woman in the photo above). She lived at a group home for adults
with disabilities and most likely could not legally obtain a gun, but
she was still able to attack and kill an innocent person without one. A
mother of five was violently attacked and stabbed to death while grocery
shopping, and her assailant was a woman wielding a knife.
There is no public outcry about banning knives from stores
or registration of knives. There’s no blame being placed on an inanimate
object in this case. As a general rule in this country, the media tends
to not be concerned with crimes like this one simply because it doesn’t
fit a narrative of “guns are scary and kill people.” Unfortunately,
people kill without guns and will continue to do so.
Perhaps if the mother or another patron had a gun on them,
she’d still be alive today. Unfortunately, hindsight is always 20/20,
and in a society where guns are being demonized, innocent people are
often left without a means to protect themselves from deranged lunatics
like MacCalister.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Ms. Wendy Boudreau, especially her five children.
